Treatment Report
CONDITION AND DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Binding
The front cover, fly-leaf and title page are detached, with the fly-leaf and title page still adhered to the front cover. The spine leather is lifting at the head and tail, and was originally adhered directly to the spine as a tightback. On the back cover, the lower fore-edge corner has been damaged, with abrasion of the leather and losses to both the board and the leather. This damage was most likely the result of a detachment of a chain that was once attached at the bottom fore-edge corner.

Textblock
There are two losses in the title page, and the corners of the title page are folded. There is loose sewing in the first signature.

TREATMENT OBJECTIVE
To reattach the front board and the chain connecting the Bible to the lectern in such a way as to prevent further damage where the board attaches to the chain.

TREATMENT PROPOSAL
  1. Reattached front board using Moriki tissue applied with Lascaux adhesive.
  2. Mended tears and fill losses in first (title) page using very thin Japanese tissue and wheat starch paste..
  3. Reattached chain connecting Bible to lectern: two replacement links were made of Moriki tissue, with one link attaching to the back board and the other to the lectern's chain.
